Job Description: Director of Engineering
Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director of Engineering to join our leadership team at Aeronix Inc, a leading aerospace and defense contractor specializing in cutting-edge electronics hardware for C6ISR missions. The Director of Engineering will lead a team of engineers and be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of complex, mission-critical systems for both government and commercial customers. This role demands a visionary leader with deep technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and a passion for delivering innovative, high-performance solutions to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, providing mentorship and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of engineering talent to meet the needs of the business.
- Coordinate with senior leadership to define and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with company goals.
- Set clear objectives and performance standards, ensuring timely delivery of engineering for all programs, products and IR&D projects.
- Coordinate resource allocation to programs.
- Manage hiring of talent to meet the needs of current and future engineering efforts.
- Drive best engineering practices for all aspects of engineering with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Chair all design reviews through the entire life cycle of technology development for all programs and products.
Engineering Strategy & Execution
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of state-of-the-art communications hardware and systems for aerospace and defense applications.
- Ensure engineering projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Implement best practices in system architecture, hardware design, and integration, balancing performance, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Establish and enforce rigorous engineering processes, including design reviews, risk management, and change control.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the seamless integration of hardware and software systems.
- Align engineering functional strategy to overall business strategy.
- Manage engineering capital expenditures.
Innovation & R&D
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Technology and Innovation to drive continuous innovation in technologies, keeping the company at the forefront of industry advancements.
- Ensure the success of research and development of new hardware solutions through engagement and review of projects.
- Review and provide input to the development of prototypes and proof-of-concept systems to demonstrate technological feasibility.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, ensuring strong relationships and understanding their communication requirements.
- Present technical solutions and project updates to customers, stakeholders, and executive leadership.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet or exceed customer expectations and compliance standards.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant aerospace and defense standards (e.g., MIL-STD, ISO, DO-254).
- Work closely with quality functions to monitor quality assurance practices, implementing corrective actions when necessary to maintain product excellence.
Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams in aerospace, defense, or related industries.
- Proven experience in communications hardware development, specifically in designing systems for aerospace, military, or defense applications in communications missions.
- Extensive experience in hardware system integration, design, and testing, including RF and signal processing in multi-domain applications.
- Strong track record of successful project management, from concept to completion, ensuring projects meet technical, financial, and schedule goals.
- Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with customers and stakeholders in high-stakes, regulated environments.
- Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and other relevant industry standards and certifications.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Prefer: Master’s degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering or a related engineering field
Key Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of communication hardware systems, RF systems, and signal processing.
- Experience with system-level design, testing, integration, and validation of complex hardware platforms.
- Familiarity with high-frequency circuit design, PCB layout, and hardware simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, LTSpice).
- Expertise in managing full product lifecycle from concept through production and deployment.
- Exceptional leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities in high-pressure environments.
- Expertise in project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
- Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project management methodologies.
- Knowledge of export control laws, ITAR, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Strong relationship builder with internal and external teams.
