SUMMARY

The Maintenance Manager provides overall leadership for the plant maintenance department. This individual is responsible for preventative maintenance, plant project efforts, and plant budget considerations relative to all plant maintenance operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Operations & Systems Management
    • Oversee and optimize milling and production systems and equipment to maximize efficiency and reliability.
    • Act as the owner of local IT, operations technology (OT), and PLC systems, maximizing productivity of plant operations.
    • Maintain and update engineering prints, drawings, and documentation for all plant systems and equipment.
    • Lead root cause investigations for safety, compliance, or breakdown related incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  2. Maintenance Team Leadership
    • Lead and manage the plant maintenance team, including planners, purchasing staff, electricians, mechanics.
    • Establish clear goals, roles, and responsibilities for team members to drive efficiency and accountability.
  3. Plant Maintenance Leadership
    • Manage the plant maintenance function, including the implementation and oversight of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
    • Lead the development and execution of Asset Care programs, ensuring reliability-centered maintenance initiatives to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime.
    • Oversee the spare parts and supplies purchasing/replenishment functions, including stockroom management.
  4. Facility, Utilities, and Safety Systems Oversight
    • Ensure the proper functioning, maintenance, and reliability of plant utilities, including power distribution, compressed air systems, and other critical infrastructure.
    • Oversee safety systems, including fire alarm and suppression systems, to ensure regulatory compliance and effective risk management.
  5. Facility Compliance & Safety Management
    • Ensure compliance with all facility regulatory requirements, including air emissions, stormwater management, and crane & hoist inspections.
    • Act as the local owner of the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program, ensuring compliance, training, and proper implementation of safety protocols.
    • Conduct routine audits, inspections, and documentation to maintain compliance with company policies and external regulations.
  6. Capital Projects & Improvements
    • Plan, manage, and execute capital projects, including equipment upgrades, facility expansions, and new technology integration.
    • Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
  7. Stockroom & Spare Parts Management
    • Manage the plant’s stockroom, optimizing inventory of critical spare parts and supplies.
    • Lead purchasing and replenishment functions to maintain operational readiness and reduce downtime risk.
    • Implement best practices for inventory tracking and cost optimization.
  8. Collaboration & Leadership
    • Serve as the technical advisor to plant leadership, providing data-driven recommendations for improvement.
    • Mentor and train maintenance and operations teams, fostering a culture of technical expertise and continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate with quality assurance, production, and warehouse/logistics teams to meet operational and business targets.

NATURE AND SCOPE

  1. Interacts with all plant personnel.
  2. Position requires a strong technical background in electrical, mechanical, and operations.
  3. Provides strong leadership for all personnel within the plant
  4. Carries out manager’s responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  5. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field). Master’s degree a plus.
  • Reliability certification (e.g., Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional - CMRP) is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years in a manufacturing or plant engineering & maintenance role with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Proven experience leading a maintenance team, including planners, electricians, mechanics, and supervisors.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing CMMS/Asset Care programs (required).
  • Experience with PLC systems (required), including programming, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of facilities and utility systems, including power distribution, compressed air plants, and fire safety systems.
  • Expertise in maintenance management, reliability-centered maintenance, and inventory control.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems, automation, and plant equipment.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-department collaboration.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must have the ability to speak fluent English as primary language. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret memo, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must have the ability to write in English and complete reports.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define and solve problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables at any given time.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

On-going training to enhance performance in position as required.

  1. The work environment is essentially in a plant manufacturing facility, containing various amounts of dust in the atmosphere, related to the cleaning and milling of wheat.
  2. Frequent contact with operational aspects of the plant site, plant-operating personnel, and lab and office employees is essential.
  3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and outdoor temperature, which will reach in excess of 100 degrees F.
  4. The noise level in the work environment will be in excess of 100 dB. Hearing protection is required in certain areas of the plant.

The Company is committed to producing and delivering defect-free products. To ensure this, all employees are required to be trained on and adhere to the Good Manufacturing Policies set forth by the Company as they pertain to personnel practices, equipment, and facilities. It is also vital that all employees be aware of the work environment and when possible, prevent accidental or intentional adulteration of products produced at this facility. As a result any employee has a right to put product on hold if they have a concern. At the plant level, only the Quality Assurance Manager and General Manager have the authority to release product on hold.
