Altech is a provider of IT services and support on the NASA - Advanced Enterprise Global Information Technology Solutions (AEGIS) program. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Solution Design Engineer to join our Specialized Services team supporting the NASA Office of Strategic Infrastructure (OSI), Facilities and Real Estate Division (FRED) IT. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to mission-critical projects within NASA’s enterprise IT environment.


Salary: $160,000 - $175,000 + Excellent Benefits
Location: Hybrid (must live within 50 miles of a NASA Center)
Clearance Required: Public Trust


Position Overview:

As a Solution Design Engineer (SME 4), you will lead the design, development, and configuration of NASA’s Enterprise Computer Maintenance Management System (eCMMS), ensuring it meets strategic and operational objectives. You will apply your technical expertise across hybrid infrastructures and container platforms to drive innovation, efficiency, and seamless integration.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and configure the Enterprise Computer Maintenance Management System (eCMMS) to align with NASA OSI requirements.
  • Provide engineering support for RedHat OpenShift Maximo Application Suite (MAS) containers and platform environments.
  • Lead system architecture and integration efforts between on-premises and cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Develop and document solution designs, ensuring adherence to engineering best practices and guidelines.
  • Analyze and define system requirements to address functionality, reliability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Manage and implement hardware and systems software enhancements in response to evolving workloads and technologies.
  • Coordinate effectively with NASA’s infrastructure and interface design teams.
  • Provide troubleshooting, technical guidance, and leadership for enterprise system integrations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (experience may substitute for degree).
  • 16+ years of experience in IT solution design and architecture.
  • Proven expertise in hybrid integration between on-premises and cloud-based systems.
  • Experience building, testing, maintaining, and managing API connections between enterprise systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead complex projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Public Trust clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with IBM Maximo MAS and the RedHat OpenShift platform.
  • Familiarity with NASA’s infrastructure and IT systems.
  • Experience in Government IT environments is a plus.
