Job DescriptionTeam JAS is looking for a skilled aviation Welder with 2-3 years of experience and relevant certifications. The ideal candidate excels in TIG and MIG welding, follows safety protocols, and maintains a clean workspace. They are problem-solvers, adaptable, and team players who collaborate effectively. We serve a global customer base of airlines, OEMs, and MROs with distribution, component repair, and PMA parts.

About The Position:
Welder responsibilities at Team JAS include repairing aircraft articles according to FAA-approved data, utilizing welding procedures and symbols, and ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies. The welder should be proficient in using tools like propane torches and grinders, familiar with various metals, and able to read technical drawings. Strong knowledge of welding techniques and inspection tools is essential to contribute to high-quality repairs and modifications at our FAA 145 Repair Station.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for repairs on aircraft articles I.A.W. FAA approved technical data
  • Tasks include the repair of defective welds, removing cracks and accomplishing welding procedures in accordance with approved technical data
  • Adherence to the company’s safety, health and environmental policies and procedures is required
  • Welder should be able to read and utilize welding procedures and welding symbols
  • Welder should be able to safely and efficiently use a propane torch to apply pre-heat to materials prior to welding
  • Welder should be able to safely and efficiently use electric and pneumatic grinders to prepare materials for welding, as well as to clean and contour finished welds
  • Welder should be able to use measuring tools and gauges to verify dimensions during weld repairs
  • Welder should be familiar with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of aluminum, stainless steels carbon, alloy steels and heat treatable alloy steels
  • Have the knowledge and experience required of current AWS standards
  • Have documented OJT and or certification from an approved facility or fabricator
  • Meet the vision requirements. Have a current eye exam on file (minimum every two years)
  • Pass examination administered by an approved AWS test/ certification utilizing Team JAS Inc. WPS for aluminum, stainless steels carbon, alloy steels and heat treatable alloy steels

Required Skills, Technical Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Welding certification from accredited school (e.g., AWS Certified Welder).
  • Ability to pass welding qualification tests as per industry standards.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding within an aviation or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience working with various metals, including aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium, commonly used in aviation applications.
  • Familiarity with aircraft components and the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings for precise welding work.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques and procedures, including heat treatment processes.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and successfully complete a FAA/DOT drug and alcohol screening.
  • Experience with welding inspection tools and techniques.

Desired Certifications:

  • Code D17.1, Process GTAW, filler metal AMS 6353C, base metal 4130, position 1G horizontal rolled and 2f.
  • Code D17.1, process GTAW, filler metal ERNICrMo-3, base metal ATI625, position 1G.
  • Code D17.1, process GTAW, filler metal ER4043, base metal 6061-T6, position 1G.

They are FAA-certified or possess AWS welding certifications, demonstrating compliance with aviation industry standards. The candidate is proficient in reading technical drawings and blueprints and understands welding inspection techniques such as ultrasonic and dye penetrant testing to ensure structural integrity.

Safety-conscious and highly precise, the ideal welder follows FAA regulations and workplace safety protocols, maintaining a clean and organized workspace. They possess strong problem-solving skills, adaptability in handling complex repair tasks, and a commitment to quality control.

Additionally, this candidate is a team player, able to collaborate effectively with engineers and repair technicians. Their attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot welding issues make them a valuable asset in ensuring high-quality repairs and modifications within the FAA 145 Repair Station.
