Nature of Work
Routine unskilled and limited semiskilled manual labor.
Work involves the performance of a wide variety of light and heavy manual labor not requiring a high degree of manipulative skill or previous experience. However, as work experience is gained, employee may be assigned to limited tasks of a semiskilled nature. Work is usually closely supervised, and the employee receives specific work instructions at the beginning of each new job. Constant supervision is not provided on routine and repetitive tasks.
Essential Functions
Works in the marinas, parks and recreation areas performing varied routine unskilled grounds and facilities maintenance tasks; cuts grass, weeds and brush; rakes grass and trash; cuts down and removes trees and helps plant and trim trees and shrubs.
Digs and refills ditches; helps install drainpipes; cleans culverts, drains and ditches.
Loads and unloads trucks; moves and carries heavy material such as pipe, lumber, gravel, sand or furniture; spreads sand, gravel and dirt.
Cleans public restrooms, empties wastebaskets, and picks up debris in public areas.
Breaks concrete with an air hammer, mixes mortar and carries tools and materials for skilled workers. Makes minor repairs to sewers, septic tanks, catch basins and manholes under close supervision.
Washes and steam cleans vehicles, tools and equipment in an automotive shop, and may assist in servicing automotive equipment.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
Six (6) months experience in performing unskilled labor.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Employees in this classification may be required to work various shifts, to include nights, holidays and weekends, based on departmental needs.
